Saturday - Venice Biennale - Wrapping it up

May 14, 2022

The remaining exhibits to see at the Biennale are in a building in the garden area, a place we walked to the other day when we saw all the international exhibits.  The remaining building is quite large and contains the works many artists, not all living, as well as new works created just for this exhibition.

The walk is about 1-3/4 miles and I shot a few more pictures.  I like this one.  Since there are no vehicles here, everything must be hauled in on boats which means that the trash has to go out the same way.  Here’s a pretty typical hand cart doing just that.  The guys hauling these are constitintly shouting out to let you know they are coming.

Along the way we saw a new art installing that wasn’t there the other day.

Here’s the explanation of what the work is about.

We arrived before the Biennale gate opened and tried to get in some shade while we waited.

Once we got in it was right to the main building.

The first sight is the elephant.

The ceiling above it is awesome.

The works in the exhibit were from a wide range of artists and I’m not going credit them all here just to save time in posting.

And a whole collection of works by Sonia Delaunay, one of my personal favorites and who was very influential in some of the works in my recent Capstone Exhibition.

Now back to works by other artists.

And that wraps up the Venice Biennale.  We headed out and stopped at a fountain that had fish and turtles in it.

We walked down a long and wide street browsing for a place to have a snack.

There were lots of options.

Mark and Terrin lead the way.

Elizabeth is not far behind.

We found a place serving cicchetti, little servings, like tapas.

Due to it being the weekend, the walk back was crowded and we saw this gentleman busking with his dog.

We took a break after returning and then Mark, Jodi, and I went out for a walk.  We found some painters.

We wandered, taking more pictures of Venetian doorways (I am getting quite the collection.)

We met up with the rest of the group and went to a nice restaurant for dinner.

The food and drink were great.

On the way back to the hotel is was time for gelato.

It was  another great day in Venice and time to head back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.
