Sunday - A “Free” Day

May 15, 2022

This will be a shorter post since I won’t be reviewing the art we’ve been looking at as today was a “free” day.  Instead of going to art exhibitions, we had two items on the agenda: do some sketching and go to Lido.

The fish market, which is a large, covered, open place near the hotel, is a craft/maker fair today so we started off the day checking that out after breakfast.  I should mention that while the hotel is really nice, there is no elevator and this is a view from the floor my room is on.

Here we are at the makers fair.

The next item was to go sit by a canal and do some sketching.  We spent about an hour there.

This is our chosen scene.

Here are a few products.

A few went back to that fair.

Getting ready to head out.

To get to Lido we needed to take a boat but before that a few in the group wanted to visit an art store that has pigments.  We got there and it was closed but a note on the door directed us to another location that was open on Sunday.

Some navigation apps were employed.

Off we go in search of the other location.

There were photo opportunities along the way.

Stopped along the way.

But it was found.

Next, Mark and I found a pub while the others found pizza.

We headed for the boat taxi which wasn’t too far away.  We masked up and Jodi gave us our tickets.

The boat pulled up and we got on and the gate closed behind me.  Uh-oh, we were 3 short since Elizabeth, Morgan, and Isabelle had detoured, something about a cat.  They’ll have to catch the next boat.

It was pretty crowded but was fun riding through the canals.

People got off at the frequent stops and were replaced by others.

Approaching Lido.

The first thing we noticed was the presence of automobiles as there are none where we are staying.

We headed for the beach.

Lido is more like a modern resort.  Everything seems new and there are few of the old buildings like where we’ve been staying.  We got to the beach and the signs indicated it was a private beach and tickets for entry were sold out.  Another sign indicated that “free” beach is about 600 meters to the left.  It seemed a bit longer as we walked it but when we got there we set up camp at the restaurant and ordered up food and drinks.

It seems that everyone is quite happy in this environment.

After finishing our lunch, some of us went down to wade in the water.  Searching for shells seemed to be the goal of the operation.

We walked back to the boat taxi, got tickets, and loaded up.

A long day in the sun followed by a boat ride can be tiring.

The boat took us back into the canals of Venice.

We took a break at the hotel and then did the walk to dinner.  It was place we had gone to last week and the food was really good.

Of course, we had to stop for gelato.

On the way back, a few of us stopped to take photos of the beautiful moon over the city.

It was another great day in Italy.  Tomorrow we are off to Florence.
