We met up at 7:45pm Tuesday evening for dinner and did the short walk to the Alnono Risorto Venezia, garden restaurant where they had a table set up for us outside under a large tree next to a canal. While this may sound like the perfect setting, I do need to mention that this leg of the canal is one where the water tends to be a bit stagnant and emits an aroma that I might describe a vaguely “organic.” It’s not overpowering and didn’t interfere with the great meal we had.
The food was very good and among the 9 of us, an assortment from the menu was sampled. I had some grilled eggplant and other vegetables over a bed of mixed rices. Other dishes I observed were a pizza, gnocchi, a pesto pasta, and a calamari dish with a black ink sauce. Both still and sparkling water were passed around and a few enjoyed a local red wine.
We were allowed to take our time and enjoyed great conversation along with the food. It started getting late and, while tempted by the dessert menu, we decided to head back to the hotel. For many/most of us, we’d been operating on just a few hours of sleep since early Monday morning so it was time to catch up and get our internal clocks readjusted.
A great first and long day.
